Ironic and Humorous

Yesterday I finished my orientation for Costco, and my first day of work is Saturday. I found out what my job duty is going to be and ironically enough my official title is "cart crew". I say ironically for one very funny reason. I am horrible at taking my cart back to either the store or the cart collection located in the parking lot.

It used to be, before I had children, that I would always return the carts. Then children came into my life and everything changed. Where once the cart was neatly put away, now it gets pushed haphazardly in between the cars to be taken care of by an employee of the store.

A couple of years ago I met someone who I now consider among my closest friends. One of her biggest pet peeves is that no one puts away their carts. Once day she and I got into a discussion about her feelings of lack of consideration people give to employees when they don't put away their carts. I went on my tirade about the impossibility of putting my cart away with a car full of screaming and impatient children. Ultimately I think we agreed to disagree on the importance of cart etiquette, with my ultimate point being, "that is what they pay the employees to do anyway."

Well, today she is laughing and I have to chuckle as well. I, the I can't put away my cart girl, am now, as my friend so kindly called me, "cart girl". I am going to get the privilege of taking care of everyone's carts. I told her today, what goes around comes around and humorously enough, it came around to me. Now the big question is....am I going to put my cart away after this.

So how did your first day go? I am anxious to hear all about it. I will be sure to always put mine away at Costco too! I usually do because I am afraid that I will be jinxed and it will come crashing into my car!

I hope you enjoyed your first day? I didn't know you were starting work! For me it really depends on the day but if I'm with Eldon our cart always gets put away. Too funny though.

Pushed to the Limits Sometimes

I have been pretty overwhelmed lately. Actually it seems to be a recurring theme in my life that I am not very pleased about. I tend to wonder why it is that I get into situations where I feel overwhelmed. I question my ability to put my life in the right perspective. So, next week in particular is going to be beastly! My larger roles will include....teacher, preschool teacher, employee (24 hours next week), mother, maid, and cook. The problem is that I don't feel like I am excelling at any of them. For instance Zach. He needs me to be a great teacher, to give him my best and most undivided attention. Instead I am giving my all to stay awake and the rest goes to him and Jillian.

Loving Moments

I had one of the most tender moments as a mother the other day. Somehow, as our family was sitting around the kitchen table talking, we got on the subject of who we would like to meet when we die. We all felt like there isn't anybody famous that we would even care to meet. We then started talking about biblical people. I said I would like to meet Noah, or Captain Moroni. I was sure that I am not the only one that wants to meet them, I'm sure they will be inundated with people wanting to meet them! Then Andrew got very solemn. He got very emotional as he said he would like to meet his Heavenly Mother. He then looked at me and said, if she was more amazing and glorious than me that he couldn't even imagine how incredible meeting her would be. He cried, I cried and we hugged a gentle, loving, mom and son hug.

Broccoli Salad

My children have this thing for broccoli salad and they beg me to make it weekly. Every time I make it I become mom of the week around here which I happen to like! One would think that it might be odd for kids to love broccoli salad, and I am not necessarily thinking it is normal, but I do know it is pretty tasty. I decided for today's post to share my recipe. Beware, I am all about easy so don't expect something elaborate, and I cook for a crowd so if you want to make this adjust to your size of family. 1/2 package of broccoli florets from Costco (chopped) 1/2 red cabbage (shredded) 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of Craisins 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of real bacon bits 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of unsalted sunflower seeds 1/2 a bottle of Kraft Creamy Poppyseed Dressing Mix Seriously, if my kids scarf this salad down I promise most kids will.
