Where Does Sausage Come From?

Today at breakfast the kids started having the funniest conversation I have heard in a long time. Clairissa started the conversation by telling us that she loves sausage. I said to her "sausage is from a pig."

Clairissa looked horrified as she said to me "what, I ate a pig?"

"yep, you ate pig, where did you think it came from?" I asked.

"From a sausage!" Clairissa exclaimed.

At this point I explained to her that ham and other meats come from a pig as well. Then I asked, "where do you think hamburger comes from?"

"From a hamburger" Clairissa stated so matter of factly.

"Clairissa" I said, "don't you realize that hamburger is from a cow?"

"What?" She cried, "you mean I ate a cow too?"

Then I started wondering if she realized that we ate animals at all so I asked her, "where does chicken come from?"

"From a chicken" she stated, as if I had asked the dumbest question of the day.

Zach then told her, "turkey comes from a chicken, Clairissa."

Of course Clairissa wasn't that stupid and quickly corrected Zach and told him that turkey comes from turkey. You know that tone of voice that says duh. Well Clairissa had that tone in her voice for sure.

Then Abby pitched in with her commentary. "I thought sausage was poop from a pig."

"What?" I questioned, as I practically gagged. "Abby, sausage is pig meat, not poop. Why did you eat it if you thought it was poop?"

Abby in her duh voice said, "I thought you put special spices in it to make it taste good."

So, after finally explaining everything I think my children are on the right page. Sausage is pig, hamburger is cow, chicken is chicken, turkey is turkey and most of all poop is poop not food.

At least you got the poop thing straightened out! That is hilarious! What a great conversation! In our house..we just call everything chicken, but I dont know if my kids know that chicken actually comes from a chicken!

What I Would Tell My Younger Self

Last week was a really tough week for our Bishop and family. First, my husband went out of town on business and it happened to overlap with our daughter and her babies visiting us. So, three days that she was here, he didn't get to see her. Then, he flew back into town Wed. around town and then we drove our daughter to the airport Thursday morning at 4:30. Yes, that is early, and yes, we did go back to bed when we got home. ;o) Then he worked all day Thursday and I will spare you the details but it was a bad day. His non-boss boss was in a foul mood and he got the brunt of it.  Thursday evening he had the yearly ward audit and didn't get home until close to 10. Friday was another fun filled day at work, and then Friday evening and Saturday were filled with youth conference which he attended and was a chaperone for during the entire event. Sunday was a rough "bishop" day that he couldn't talk about, and quite frankly, I didn't want to hear about.  That leads us...

Officially in the Limelight!

I had an interesting experience this evening. Without divulging more than I should, let's just say that I was told that people in my area are concerned that I have not kept my information about the stake changes private until the appropriate time. They were concerned that because I dated my blog post for the date of my writing some people thought that I had said something before the stake split announcement. Let me assure you that this isn't the case. I date my posts for the day that I write them but I didn't post them until Nov. 9th, the afternoon of the day of Stake conference. With that being said, this experience brought to my attention how much being a bishop's wife really is somewhat like being on show for everyone. Sometimes you are scrutinized and it is good, and sometimes it isn't so good.  I felt truly inspired to write and keep this blog so that people can get an idea of what a normal bishop's family is like. This however can be difficult because I ...
