Fundraising

Recently my girls came to me asking if they could participate in the 5k fundraiser for a little girl Mckenna in our neighborhood who has Leukemia for the second time. We talked about it but the price was a little more than I could afford in order for our family to participate so I said to the girls "hey, why don't you guys sell cookies and earn the money for us to participate".

Long story short, little did I know that my contribution would be $60 in supplies and making 51 dozen cookies! What my girls did to raise money for this sweet girl was nothing short of amazing. They took a few afternoons last week and knocked on doors in our neighborhood. They showed no fear, not hesitancy, and actually looked forward to selling the cookies. When all was said and done they earned about $175 dollars which is awesome for a few days work selling $3.00 bags of cookies. Most of all they learned a valuable lesson about service and helping others. Truthfully, our whole family learned a valuable lesson. Thank you Clairissa and Abigail for you great example to our family.

Officially in the Limelight!

I had an interesting experience this evening. Without divulging more than I should, let's just say that I was told that people in my area are concerned that I have not kept my information about the stake changes private until the appropriate time. They were concerned that because I dated my blog post for the date of my writing some people thought that I had said something before the stake split announcement. Let me assure you that this isn't the case. I date my posts for the day that I write them but I didn't post them until Nov. 9th, the afternoon of the day of Stake conference. With that being said, this experience brought to my attention how much being a bishop's wife really is somewhat like being on show for everyone. Sometimes you are scrutinized and it is good, and sometimes it isn't so good.  I felt truly inspired to write and keep this blog so that people can get an idea of what a normal bishop's family is like. This however can be difficult because I ...

Pushed to the Limits Sometimes

I have been pretty overwhelmed lately. Actually it seems to be a recurring theme in my life that I am not very pleased about. I tend to wonder why it is that I get into situations where I feel overwhelmed. I question my ability to put my life in the right perspective. So, next week in particular is going to be beastly! My larger roles will include....teacher, preschool teacher, employee (24 hours next week), mother, maid, and cook. The problem is that I don't feel like I am excelling at any of them. For instance Zach. He needs me to be a great teacher, to give him my best and most undivided attention. Instead I am giving my all to stay awake and the rest goes to him and Jillian.

What I Would Tell My Younger Self

Last week was a really tough week for our Bishop and family. First, my husband went out of town on business and it happened to overlap with our daughter and her babies visiting us. So, three days that she was here, he didn't get to see her. Then, he flew back into town Wed. around town and then we drove our daughter to the airport Thursday morning at 4:30. Yes, that is early, and yes, we did go back to bed when we got home. ;o) Then he worked all day Thursday and I will spare you the details but it was a bad day. His non-boss boss was in a foul mood and he got the brunt of it.  Thursday evening he had the yearly ward audit and didn't get home until close to 10. Friday was another fun filled day at work, and then Friday evening and Saturday were filled with youth conference which he attended and was a chaperone for during the entire event. Sunday was a rough "bishop" day that he couldn't talk about, and quite frankly, I didn't want to hear about.  That leads us...
