22 pounds and counting!

I am writing this for the sake of me, not my readers so bear with me.

I am so excited about my progress with my weight loss. I have really struggled in the past with getting my body to respond to my efforts at losing weight. This time around things are different and so as usual I have analyzed and have come to a few conclusions. It has only taken me 18 years of self retrospection to get to this point. I guess I am a slow learner.

1. I can not exercise and lose weight. It is too much for me. I get so famished that I lose all self control and so I end up maintaining instead of losing.

Two years ago I was exercising like a mad person. I was also following the Isagenix program. When I look back I realize that my body was literally starving! I was not eating enough calories, and was exercising so much that the famished thing was killing me. So, lesson? Don't take on heavy exercise until I am ready to maintain.

2. I need to move more in order to lose weight.

I have tried dieting in the past, like last year for Mark's dad's wedding, and my weekly average loss was something like .6 of a pound. This time around my average loss is more like 1.4 pounds. The difference? I am working. I move a lot but I am not "exercising" so much that my body can't handle limited calories.

3. I need to eat.

This goes back to my story in lesson 1. I was doing Isagenix which would be fine for someone who doesn't move, but I was moving a lot. As I worked out my body needed more calories and I was either feeding it too many calories (on my no willpower days) or not enough calories the rest of the time. This time around I am doing weight watchers and when I count my points every day I realize that I am eating way more now than I was two years ago. I think my body went into starvation mode to compensate for the stress I was putting it through.

Interesting. Some people starve and lose weight. My body will not let me do that. Some people "work out" and lose wieght. My body will not let me "work out" it off either. I lose only in moderation. Moderation in eating, moderation in moving. I have had to learn to be happy with me everyday. I have had to learn to look at food as fuel and stop eating because of stress. Wow, is that a hard lesson to learn and even harder to come to terms with. Talk about changing my peridigm.

I am only 3 pounds away from my half way goal. People are starting to notice a change and I have to say....it is feeling really really good!

I am so happy for you. I have learned recently that I can have the foods I love, but not a lot of it. Moderation really is the key. Congratulations on your twenty two pounds! That is a huge accomplishment.

Officially in the Limelight!

I had an interesting experience this evening. Without divulging more than I should, let's just say that I was told that people in my area are concerned that I have not kept my information about the stake changes private until the appropriate time. They were concerned that because I dated my blog post for the date of my writing some people thought that I had said something before the stake split announcement. Let me assure you that this isn't the case. I date my posts for the day that I write them but I didn't post them until Nov. 9th, the afternoon of the day of Stake conference. With that being said, this experience brought to my attention how much being a bishop's wife really is somewhat like being on show for everyone. Sometimes you are scrutinized and it is good, and sometimes it isn't so good.  I felt truly inspired to write and keep this blog so that people can get an idea of what a normal bishop's family is like. This however can be difficult because I ...

Pushed to the Limits Sometimes

I have been pretty overwhelmed lately. Actually it seems to be a recurring theme in my life that I am not very pleased about. I tend to wonder why it is that I get into situations where I feel overwhelmed. I question my ability to put my life in the right perspective. So, next week in particular is going to be beastly! My larger roles will include....teacher, preschool teacher, employee (24 hours next week), mother, maid, and cook. The problem is that I don't feel like I am excelling at any of them. For instance Zach. He needs me to be a great teacher, to give him my best and most undivided attention. Instead I am giving my all to stay awake and the rest goes to him and Jillian.

Loving Moments

I had one of the most tender moments as a mother the other day. Somehow, as our family was sitting around the kitchen table talking, we got on the subject of who we would like to meet when we die. We all felt like there isn't anybody famous that we would even care to meet. We then started talking about biblical people. I said I would like to meet Noah, or Captain Moroni. I was sure that I am not the only one that wants to meet them, I'm sure they will be inundated with people wanting to meet them! Then Andrew got very solemn. He got very emotional as he said he would like to meet his Heavenly Mother. He then looked at me and said, if she was more amazing and glorious than me that he couldn't even imagine how incredible meeting her would be. He cried, I cried and we hugged a gentle, loving, mom and son hug.
