Photo Shoot for a Co-worker

I had a great time today taking pictures of a friend of mine and her family. It unfortunately ended early when her sweet little boy fell off of the playground equipment, but all in all it was a fun morning. These were a few of my favorites.

So the funny for the day was this. I need an assistant when I do photo shoots. Someone who can hold the camera bag, extra lens, and keep my thoughts organized. So, I had to bring Rachael which meant I didn't have a babysitter and so I told the kids they all had to come too. The morning lighting is best right now at about 7-8 am. So, we were all awake and out the door by 7. I promised everyone that if they were on their best behavior I would buy them a doughnut from Lehi Bakery since they have the best doughnuts EVER!

The kids were incredibly good and well behaved. We got into the car after the shoot and I praised my children for their their excellent behavior and took everyone's order. We pulled up to Lehi Bakery and to our dismay they were closed both yesterday and today. So.... NO doughnuts for us. :o( (like I need a doughnut) Jillian of course cried. Poor girl didn't understand closed when they are supposed to be open. The rest of the kids were fine though and we went to Walmart later on in the day to get ice cream instead.

Which leads me to my second funny of the day. For whatever reason the boys decided that they wanted to race me to Walmart. I would drive with the girls and they would ride their bikes through the neighborhood and field. I was sneaky and was loading up the girls before they knew we were ready to head out. Andrew of course caught on so we didn't get a head start. A funny side note to this is that Andrew started practice for his Extreme Soccer team this week and they work the team so hard that he comes home walking like he has cerebral palsey or something. I don't quite know what made him think he could beat me to the store with as "handicapped" as he is but it made for a really funny race and quite frankly great mental images of him trying to book it with his legs in as much pain as they were in.

As we were driving along the street we saw the boys riding over the burm out in the field and we of course won with enough time to get out of the car, walk over to the benches outside at the front of the store, and leisurely sit as they rode up. Andrew tried to convince me that they could have won if he didn't get a huge gash in his jeans from the stupid bike he was riding. But I know better. Those wobbly legs were the real culprit. Well, after we got our things and headed outside Andrew begged me to load up the bikes so they could ride home. Yep it was a definite pain thing which I knew would happen and totally called on the way to the store. So, we loaded up the bikes, 5 kids shared the middle seat in the Expedition, and we illegally drove home.

My favorite moment of the day came when the kids were eating their ice cream and that boom boom song came on the radio. Everyone cheered including Jilly and they all sang to the song as we drove (including Jilly). I looked back at my sweet children and noticed a really cute messy face on my baby. The whole classic beautiful summer sweetness got to me and I became teary for a minute thinking about the magic of the the precious moment I was experiencing. I love summer, sun, rain, ice cream, bike rides, singing, and craziness. Life is so good.

What I Would Tell My Younger Self

Last week was a really tough week for our Bishop and family. First, my husband went out of town on business and it happened to overlap with our daughter and her babies visiting us. So, three days that she was here, he didn't get to see her. Then, he flew back into town Wed. around town and then we drove our daughter to the airport Thursday morning at 4:30. Yes, that is early, and yes, we did go back to bed when we got home. ;o) Then he worked all day Thursday and I will spare you the details but it was a bad day. His non-boss boss was in a foul mood and he got the brunt of it.  Thursday evening he had the yearly ward audit and didn't get home until close to 10. Friday was another fun filled day at work, and then Friday evening and Saturday were filled with youth conference which he attended and was a chaperone for during the entire event. Sunday was a rough "bishop" day that he couldn't talk about, and quite frankly, I didn't want to hear about.  That leads us...

Officially in the Limelight!

I had an interesting experience this evening. Without divulging more than I should, let's just say that I was told that people in my area are concerned that I have not kept my information about the stake changes private until the appropriate time. They were concerned that because I dated my blog post for the date of my writing some people thought that I had said something before the stake split announcement. Let me assure you that this isn't the case. I date my posts for the day that I write them but I didn't post them until Nov. 9th, the afternoon of the day of Stake conference. With that being said, this experience brought to my attention how much being a bishop's wife really is somewhat like being on show for everyone. Sometimes you are scrutinized and it is good, and sometimes it isn't so good.  I felt truly inspired to write and keep this blog so that people can get an idea of what a normal bishop's family is like. This however can be difficult because I ...
