Teenage Moments

Rachael was asked to Homecoming the other night and this is the story.

Last Thursday night we had a knock on our door and when we opened up the door there sat 2 bags of flour with the message "will you go to homecoming with me? (ps. my name is in the flower)."

Yes, we thought it was odd that flour was spelled flower but we didn't see anything in the flowers out front so we dumped the flour into a big black trash sack and Rachael proceeded to search though the flour.

A half hour later her search through the flour was coming up empty. Then we received another knock at the door. This time a flower was sitting on the porch with a little note attached that read "sorry, wrong flower". She searched through the flower for a note that had her suitor's name but there was nothing to be found.

This was her "uh, there isn't anything there" look. The next day Andrew called their friend Taylor who admitted that he was the one who had left the "gifts" and that there was supposed to be a little note stuck between the petals of the flower.

Once she knew who had sent her the invite Rachael needed to give her answer. All I have to say is that pay backs can be brutal. Hee hee hee. She gave him a potted plant and wrote on the pot "my answer is in the flowers". Andrew ran up and left the flowers on Taylor's door while our family all waited in the car around the corner. Rachael would have loved to run but, with her knee still healing from the surgery, the best she could have done is hobble. A few minutes later Andrew ran up to the door to leave the bucket filled with the flour Taylor had given her. She decorated it with plain brown paper and cute stick figures that said things like "this is ridiculous, "what was she thinking", and "how absurd", and put 3 skittles in the middle of the flour that had written on them y, e, and s.

Of course Taylor being the brilliant kid that he is didn't even look in the flowers and when the bucket came he got out the sieve and found the skittles in less than 5 minutes, but the experience was a blast and our family loved being part of the fun!

That is awesome!! now is that who she was hoping would ask her to homecoming??
Too funny! I remember those days and how fun it was to try and come up with something creative to ask and answer.

I honestly cannot believe Rachel is old enough to date! I know it's true but it's just hard to believe. Of course, I'm sure it's hard for you to believe that I have four kids! hee hee. Anyone younger should always be that young, right? What fun! I remember those days!

What I Would Tell My Younger Self

Last week was a really tough week for our Bishop and family. First, my husband went out of town on business and it happened to overlap with our daughter and her babies visiting us. So, three days that she was here, he didn't get to see her. Then, he flew back into town Wed. around town and then we drove our daughter to the airport Thursday morning at 4:30. Yes, that is early, and yes, we did go back to bed when we got home. ;o) Then he worked all day Thursday and I will spare you the details but it was a bad day. His non-boss boss was in a foul mood and he got the brunt of it.  Thursday evening he had the yearly ward audit and didn't get home until close to 10. Friday was another fun filled day at work, and then Friday evening and Saturday were filled with youth conference which he attended and was a chaperone for during the entire event. Sunday was a rough "bishop" day that he couldn't talk about, and quite frankly, I didn't want to hear about.  That leads us...

Officially in the Limelight!

I had an interesting experience this evening. Without divulging more than I should, let's just say that I was told that people in my area are concerned that I have not kept my information about the stake changes private until the appropriate time. They were concerned that because I dated my blog post for the date of my writing some people thought that I had said something before the stake split announcement. Let me assure you that this isn't the case. I date my posts for the day that I write them but I didn't post them until Nov. 9th, the afternoon of the day of Stake conference. With that being said, this experience brought to my attention how much being a bishop's wife really is somewhat like being on show for everyone. Sometimes you are scrutinized and it is good, and sometimes it isn't so good.  I felt truly inspired to write and keep this blog so that people can get an idea of what a normal bishop's family is like. This however can be difficult because I ...
