Post Op

Mark is doing really good. Honestly, I can't say that I would be doing as well if I were in his position. He is exhausted and very sore but is getting around the house relatively easily. Luckily he has incredible lower body strength so he is using is legs to do all the work which allows him to move around better.

As far as yesterday goes it was pretty nondescript. We were supposed to be there by 11:15 and of course we were late (Shocker!), luckily not by much though. It didn't really matter that we were a touch late because we still waited almost an hour and a half before he went back for surgery. I went up to the waiting room at that point and read the lesson manual for next Sunday's relief society lesson (which ironically was on the subject of death). I know that sounds a little strange but I desperately pleaded with the Lord for peace for my nerves and I thought there wouldn't be any better way to bring that spirit into my life than to read inspired words of the Lord. It worked. Somebody asked me yesterday how I was during surgery and I told them great. I don't think they believed me but I was being completely honest. I prayed for strength and received it.

After Mark got out of surgery the doctor came in to let me know how every thing had gone and bring me a present. Mark has the sweetest surgeon. Yep, he decided to save one of Mark's gall stones for me. I took one look at the stone and told the doctor that it was the most freakishly gross and yet cool thing I had seen in a while. The gall stone from my best guess measures about 1 inch in diameter and in fact the doctor usually only makes 1/2 inch incisions for the laparoscopic surgery but Mark's stone was so large they had to make one of his holes bigger just to fit the stone through. After Mark was out of post op and they were taking him down to recovery they were supposed to call me. Of course the nurse forgot so I did not get to walk down with him, he was already set up in recovery when I got there. I was hoping that Mark would have some funny crazy things to say as entertainment , after being loopy from the anesthesia, but he was quite coherent when I got down to recovery. Bummer! The part that ended up taking the longest was waiting for Mark to be able to keep his oxygen levels up. As soon as that was taken care of then we were on our way home. We got home about 7 at last night and now Mark is just resting and recuperating.

Pushed to the Limits Sometimes

I have been pretty overwhelmed lately. Actually it seems to be a recurring theme in my life that I am not very pleased about. I tend to wonder why it is that I get into situations where I feel overwhelmed. I question my ability to put my life in the right perspective. So, next week in particular is going to be beastly! My larger roles will include....teacher, preschool teacher, employee (24 hours next week), mother, maid, and cook. The problem is that I don't feel like I am excelling at any of them. For instance Zach. He needs me to be a great teacher, to give him my best and most undivided attention. Instead I am giving my all to stay awake and the rest goes to him and Jillian.

Loving Moments

I had one of the most tender moments as a mother the other day. Somehow, as our family was sitting around the kitchen table talking, we got on the subject of who we would like to meet when we die. We all felt like there isn't anybody famous that we would even care to meet. We then started talking about biblical people. I said I would like to meet Noah, or Captain Moroni. I was sure that I am not the only one that wants to meet them, I'm sure they will be inundated with people wanting to meet them! Then Andrew got very solemn. He got very emotional as he said he would like to meet his Heavenly Mother. He then looked at me and said, if she was more amazing and glorious than me that he couldn't even imagine how incredible meeting her would be. He cried, I cried and we hugged a gentle, loving, mom and son hug.

Broccoli Salad

My children have this thing for broccoli salad and they beg me to make it weekly. Every time I make it I become mom of the week around here which I happen to like! One would think that it might be odd for kids to love broccoli salad, and I am not necessarily thinking it is normal, but I do know it is pretty tasty. I decided for today's post to share my recipe. Beware, I am all about easy so don't expect something elaborate, and I cook for a crowd so if you want to make this adjust to your size of family. 1/2 package of broccoli florets from Costco (chopped) 1/2 red cabbage (shredded) 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of Craisins 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of real bacon bits 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of unsalted sunflower seeds 1/2 a bottle of Kraft Creamy Poppyseed Dressing Mix Seriously, if my kids scarf this salad down I promise most kids will.
