Down in the Dumps

I am working hard right now to keep my spirits up. It seems like our family always has something on our plate. For example, in the past year we have had our washing machine , dryer, toaster, iron, washing machine (again), microwave, lawn mower, and car die. Actually, first we had a truck which ended up being a lemon die a few times, and then we were given a car that died the day we registered it. We got it running a couple of weeks ago and then yesterday coming home from the doctor it started running really funny and is once again not drive able.

On top of that, Rachael had gall bladder issues and was down for 2 months last spring/summer, then she had a knee injury that we have been dealing with since January. Mark has had back problems that he has been going to a chiropractor 3 times a week for, and his gall bladder issues which prognosis for is surgery. Yep, within a week, I would hope, he will be having his gall bladder removed.

I am not trying to play a sympathy card I don't need special attention. I know I am not the only one struggling with every day inundating trial. It isn't like we can't survive, I just get tired sometimes. I think everyone can relate to that. Whenever things seem to be going smoothly I know we are right around the corner from the next minor disaster. Like for example, the car. I was feeling so blessed to have it. It has helped us on spending money on fuel, and then it died. Of course it died. I counted my chickens before they hatched apparently. Poor Andrew, he is working hard on his lawn business and then the stupid thing started blowing smoke and then died. Really? Did we need that too? Ok, and this is funny, today is our anniversary and I started my period today. Now, it isn't like Mark is in any kind of condition for intimacy anyway but it just figures that I would start today.

So, Mark has had a chance to grumble lately and I decided I would take a moment too. Don't feel bad for us, just chalk it up to a me me me moment.

Happy Anniversary honey. I love you, our crazy life, and all that we have been through.

Guess you can also add that our "free cable" was cut. Oh well. Life goes on!

Pushed to the Limits Sometimes

I have been pretty overwhelmed lately. Actually it seems to be a recurring theme in my life that I am not very pleased about. I tend to wonder why it is that I get into situations where I feel overwhelmed. I question my ability to put my life in the right perspective. So, next week in particular is going to be beastly! My larger roles will include....teacher, preschool teacher, employee (24 hours next week), mother, maid, and cook. The problem is that I don't feel like I am excelling at any of them. For instance Zach. He needs me to be a great teacher, to give him my best and most undivided attention. Instead I am giving my all to stay awake and the rest goes to him and Jillian.

Loving Moments

I had one of the most tender moments as a mother the other day. Somehow, as our family was sitting around the kitchen table talking, we got on the subject of who we would like to meet when we die. We all felt like there isn't anybody famous that we would even care to meet. We then started talking about biblical people. I said I would like to meet Noah, or Captain Moroni. I was sure that I am not the only one that wants to meet them, I'm sure they will be inundated with people wanting to meet them! Then Andrew got very solemn. He got very emotional as he said he would like to meet his Heavenly Mother. He then looked at me and said, if she was more amazing and glorious than me that he couldn't even imagine how incredible meeting her would be. He cried, I cried and we hugged a gentle, loving, mom and son hug.

Broccoli Salad

My children have this thing for broccoli salad and they beg me to make it weekly. Every time I make it I become mom of the week around here which I happen to like! One would think that it might be odd for kids to love broccoli salad, and I am not necessarily thinking it is normal, but I do know it is pretty tasty. I decided for today's post to share my recipe. Beware, I am all about easy so don't expect something elaborate, and I cook for a crowd so if you want to make this adjust to your size of family. 1/2 package of broccoli florets from Costco (chopped) 1/2 red cabbage (shredded) 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of Craisins 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of real bacon bits 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of unsalted sunflower seeds 1/2 a bottle of Kraft Creamy Poppyseed Dressing Mix Seriously, if my kids scarf this salad down I promise most kids will.
