10th Weigh In and Freedom

Today my baby took her first giant leap towards freedom. Ok, my freedom too, but The shocking, exciting, scary, and expensive step was her drivers license. At 6:00 this morning we dropped Rachael off at school for her final road test. She passed, and was given her certificate of completion. Mark and I picked her up from school at 11:30 and took her down to the DMV handed her certificates over, paid the fees and got her license. We celebrated over Cafe Rio lunch and then this afternoon she took the car and drove herself to cheer. Can you believe it? Can I believe it? Where did all the time go. I remember turning 8 and announcing to my parents that I would be driving in only 8 more years. I then counted down the years and then days until I could drive. Now, all of these years (and really it has only been a few moments in time) later I have a daughter old enough to drive. I remember getting my license and how wonderful it felt to be able to take care of myself. I didn't even have a cute car just a huge beast of a van, which only cemented my nerdiness, but all the same I could drive myself around. Surely my daughter must be feeling that same sense of freedom too. I told her that I expect her to have a life this summer. How fun is that going to be for her. And, even more exciting is that we have a car for her. Somebody that we know was so wonderful and kind and gave us a really cute black 11 year old Honda Civic. Bad news? Yep there always is some somewhere in the story. On the way home from registering the car it broke down on the freeway and it turns out that we have to replace the timing belt. (and hopefully that is the only thing we have to replace) Luckily my brother Reed is a mechanic and has worked on Hondas so in a couple of weeks we will get everything running and she and I will be free.

On to the weight thing. This last week I gained .4 of a pound. I am not quite sure why but I am not stressing about it right now. Pretty much I have so much to accomplish this week and regardless of anything I am leaving for Florida in 2 more days so I might as well take it for what it is. That is my motto lately. "It is what it is" So, my exciting goal for this week is that I am going to exercise while I am gone. I really love working out at the gym and I will have time and a gym at the hotel so a good hard run every day is what I am going to do. Yahoo!

So, in preparation for Florida I have cut my hair, got my toenails done, tomorrow is my tan and picking up dress and Tux, and then Wed. is packing. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I will hopefully blog about the trip every evening so watch and I will keep everyone posted.

I'm Home!!! You're leaving!!! I can watch your girls if you still need me to. I had a great time but am so happy to be back! I'll try to get around to blogging about it. I sure hope you eat better than I did while you're out! Yikes!

Congratulations to both you and Rachael for the new life you'll be leading. Freedom is right! It's kind of strange to be sad about your baby growing up and elated that she can drive herself to things at the same time. But I've been there. I wish I could answer your question about where the time went - I can't seem to figure it out either.

Broccoli Salad

My children have this thing for broccoli salad and they beg me to make it weekly. Every time I make it I become mom of the week around here which I happen to like! One would think that it might be odd for kids to love broccoli salad, and I am not necessarily thinking it is normal, but I do know it is pretty tasty. I decided for today's post to share my recipe. Beware, I am all about easy so don't expect something elaborate, and I cook for a crowd so if you want to make this adjust to your size of family. 1/2 package of broccoli florets from Costco (chopped) 1/2 red cabbage (shredded) 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of Craisins 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of real bacon bits 2 handfuls (or add to desired preference) of unsalted sunflower seeds 1/2 a bottle of Kraft Creamy Poppyseed Dressing Mix Seriously, if my kids scarf this salad down I promise most kids will.

2009 Family Pictures

We had the funnest silliest adventure today. We decided that since Rachael's braces are off and Mark and I have lost a few pounds that it would be a great time to take our family pictures. I have seen some really cool looking pictures done at the salt flats so we took a drive out there. Yep, 2 hours later, after making a 20 min. past our destination detour, having to stop at the only gas station in the middle of nowhere for a bathroom trip, and just as the sun was going down over the mountain we pulled up. The couch was very quickly unloaded and then in a very hasty 10-15 min. We sat, posed, and pushed the button to take our picture over and over again. It was such a good time with all of us laughing and enjoying every minute of the warm light and family bonding. Please note that these pictures are straight out of the camera and I have not edited them yet. Even with that being said, I LOVE them!!! It is just what I was envisioning. Once editing is done I think they will be quite ...

Questions Answered, Questions Created

Today was Mark's appointment with the pulmonologist at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. I wish I could say that we came away with answers, good or bad, but instead Mark and I just feel confused. We got to the appointment about 15 minutes early which gave us plenty of time to fill out the piles of paperwork. As we were filling out the paperwork we noticed a sign that was posted with the names of each of the doctors and whether each of them were on time or not. According to the sign our doctor was right on time so after finishing the paperwork we sat back expecting that we would get in within a few minutes. Well, a few minutes turned into a half hour, which turned into an hour plus. Finally they called us back to our room and the nurse assured us that the doctor was just writing up a couple prescriptions for the previous patient and then he would be right in. Of course right in meant another 20 minutes or so. The doctor finally came in and proceeded to ask us questions about Ma...
